Karen Nielson - L.Ac, MSOM

Karen is a Licensed Acupuncturist (with over 2000 hours of post graduate training).  She graduated with a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2000.  Karen is trained in Jaffe Mellor Technique; an advanced muscle testing protocol incorporating acupressure and breath work to re-align the communication systems in the body.  She is a practitioner of Dr. Tan's Balance Method - an extremely effective protocol for pain relief and for restoring balance to any meridian/organ problem. She has also pursued training in 5 Element Medicine from a variety of perspectives. In 2006 Karen completed a 3 year program called 'Echoes of the Ancestors' coming out of a West African tradition. It focuses on individual and community healing work by inviting the elements to assist us in our healing journey...and in that relationship create reciprocity by becoming more attuned to, and respectful of, the life giving power of nature, and of our intimate interdependence with each of the elements.  In 2002 she completed Angeles Arrien's year long training called Triumph of the Imagination. In 2001 I completed a 12 day intensive held in the high desert facilitated by Angeles Arrien. Angeles introduces indigenous teachings and 'ways of being' that are designed to help us break through self limiting patterns of behavior - allowing the resurfacing of the soul's purpose and the ways of manifesting that purpose in this lifetime.  Karen is available for appointments at our St. Cloud office.  You can schedule with Karen by contacting her directly at (320) 293-0394 or emailing her at karen@WellPointeOM.com.  Visit her website at http://www.wellpointeom.com/index.html for more information.

Hands With Heart Midwifery

Robin Colburn has been living her passion for working with women throughout their life-span for the past 20 years. She became interested in midwifery when her youngest child was born at a free-standing birth center in Tallahassee, Florida, 28 year ago. Having had two hospital births prior to her birth center experience, she was really impacted by the difference between medicalized obstetric care and midwifery care in the out of hospital setting. Shortly after her birth center experience, Robin eagerly began working toward her midwifery degree.

Robin attended Southeast Community College in Nebraska for her LPN certificate and RN degree. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for her Bachelors of Nursing Degree and the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University for her Midwifery Certificate. Robin also has a Master’s Degree in Midwifery from Philadelphia University.

Robin feels strongly that women should be in control of their health care. She believes it is the midwife’s role to provide women and their families with the information they need so that they can make health care decisions that are best for them.  Robin is a widow with three adult children and four wonderful grandchildren who keep her busy and entertained when she is not being “with women”.

Robin works out of our St. Cloud office and at A New Story Birth Center in Milica.  Please call 218-640-2647 to schedule with Robin

Jeff Friesen - General Manager

Jeff grew up in northern Alberta in Canada. And no, he doesn’t play hockey, but he has built an igloo or 2 in my day.  He says that Alberta was a great place to grow up, assuming the mosquitos didn’t kill you in the summer time. At the age of 17 he won a scholarship to study in the United States and he is glad to have found a home and family in the USA.  He has 2 degrees in Music and Education. And has been active in the natural health field for decades. He is married to the Medical Director of ENFM, Dr. Lee Aberle

Jeff brings a wealth of experience to Edgewater Natural Family Medicine. He has lived in 3 countries on 2 continents and has excelled in multiple fields.

His first job, after family chores and feeding the livestock, was as a paperboy and then as a stock-boy and grocery bagger at the local grocery store where he learned the importance of hard work and customer service. He has worked as a truck loader for UPS and Fedex, a pipeline field supply and inspection worker, a yoga teacher, and a personal chef.

He has written articles for newspapers and soundtracks for plays. He spent 3 years designing and installing music education labs for VH1’s Save the Music Foundation and he spent another 2 years working as a maximum-security corrections officer. He has served on several boards of directors including the Good Earth Food Co-op in St Cloud, and somewhere in all of that he taught music at schools in Minnesota and Oregon for 10 years. His proudest moment came when he said I do and married Dr. Lee Aberle.

He was in 2 car accidents that  left him partially paralyzed in his arms and hands, but with hard work and the right therapies here at the clinic he has regained the use of his hands and arms. Most days he gets up every morning and sits in wonder at the beauty of the sunrise. Or at least he does after someone hands him coffee. His wife has learned that questions asked in the morning will not be answered until after 9AM.

Jeff is the overall manager of the clinic and can answer most questions.

“Everyday is another chance to make a difference in someone’s life.”
